Whether you have a regular Keurig style or the larger VUE Pod style single serving coffee maker, there are reasons why you may want to consider one of these filter cups that allow you to use your own blends and stop creating an environmental nightmare.
Reusable Coffee Filter Cups Reasons
There are several reasons to go this route, and they are just common sense, really. If you’re environmentally conscious at all, then you know that people all over the world who use these machines are together creating a pollution nightmare with all of these disposable k-cup coffee pods that are single use and get thrown out after being used. That equates to tons and tons of environmental waste annually.
Another reason here is cost. Coffee pods are expensive. While it’s nice to have some different flavors or blends for when guests come over, to use them daily will amount to a lot of money being spent. Not every family has that budget.
Freshness is a great reason to ditch the disposable pods. You get to grind your own coffee beans for optimal freshness and still use your single serving coffee maker.
Convenience is another big factor here. You never have to worry about if the store has the disposable pods in stock or not. They ALWAYS have some sort of ground or maybe whole bean coffee, so you will always be able to get your coffee when at the store.
Reusable Coffee Filter Cups are Easy to Use
While there is some cleanup after each use, you know, disposing of the used coffee grinds and rinsing the cup, it’s really minor considering the money that you will likely save and also the environmental responsibility that you are exercising.
Types of Reusable Coffee Filter Cups
Many people have the standard Keurig style k-cup machines with the small k-cups. There is another type of machine that uses a larger style pod, although the inner cup is the same size and it holds the same amount of coffee.
Some have removable lids while others are attached. The removable lid ones would last longer but if you can get a hinged lid that is also great and long lasting.
The standard k-cups would be for the regular small size 1.0 or 2.0 machines that most people think of when they imagine k-cups. Of course, there are a multitude of these products all over Amazon so just take your pick.
The Foodie has the VUE style machine, which uses a larger dimension cup size, and thus needs the VUE style filter cup. This machine is great, but they’re no longer being made. Sad. Some sellers are still selling them. So, if you have or can get one, I recommend this exact filter cup, as it’s the one I use the most, and I have been using it for years without needing to replace it. It’s great quality. It has a hinged flip lid that hasn’t given me any trouble.
The filter cup pods just fits into the coffee machine the way any disposable cup would.
If you were wondering about some kick butt strong coffee that you could experiment with, then I have an article for you to check out regarding that.
Drink coffee responsibly. Caffeine is still what it is.
Enjoy. Foodie, out.
Peace.
